About Whistler

The Canadian resort town in the Coast Mountains draws many tourists with more than two million people visiting per year for skiing, snowboarding and other recreational activities. Whistler was explored by British Naval officers in the 1860s and named London Mountain. It earned its name Whistler from the whistling sound made by the hoary marmots. Whistler had many events when nearby Vancouver hosted the 2010 Winter Olympics. Myrtle and Alex Philip from the U.S. state of Maine traveled to Whistler and bought 10 acres of land to open the town's first resort and others soon follow.
