About Warsaw Royal Castle

Built near the Vistula River, the Royal Castle was once the official residence of Poland’s monarchs. Now it’s a museum. The Castle was built in the late 1500s and early 1600s and marks the entrance to Old Town Warsaw. Its brick façade and general construction have both Polish and Italian influences due to the fact that its architects were Italian. The Castle was destroyed in WWII and reconstructed in the 1970s and 1980s. Now it’s open to the public and contains the National Museum, with two Rembrandt paintings among its collection. The Ministry of Culture also meets here periodically.
