About Vestmannaeyjar (Westman Islands)

A town and archipelago, Vestmannaeyjar is also known as the Westman Islands outside of Iceland and sits on the southwest side of Iceland. The major island, Heimaey, is home to a population of 4,100 individuals as well as hosting a large population of Puffin, the towns emblem bird. The National Festival has taken place here since 1874, inviting thousand of people from all around the national to celebrate here. The island is centered around the Eldfell volcano, which caused a devastating eruption in 1973.
