One of Alaska's main ports, this picturesque city is surrounded by the Chugach Mountains, many glaciers and Prince William Sound. Valdez was named after Spanish Navy Minister Antonio Valdes y Fernandez Bazan in 1790. The city's Valdez Marine Terminal is where oil is transported onto ships from the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. Points of interest include Columbia Glacier, Worthington Glacier, Keystone Canyon, The Valdez Museum and History Archive, Maxine & Jesse Whitney Museum and Fielding Lake State Recreation Area.
