The World War II memorial was dedicated in 1962 and is the sea burial for many of the 1,177 military men who lost their lives during the Pearl Harbor attack by Japan on Dec. 7, 1941. USS Arizona Memorial extends 184 feet along the center of the sunken vessel and was designed by Alfred Preis. A marble wall in the site's Shrine Room contains the names of those crewman who lost their lives and its Central Area is for ceremonies. The Registered National Historic Landmark is part of the World World II Valor in the Pacific National Monument.
