The quaint New England town has many historical homes and is the site of the famous Essex Steam Train. Essex, Connecticut was established as Potapoug Point in 1852 and its name was changed two years later. The town is separated into the villages of Essex, Ivoryton and Centerbrook. Other points of interest are the Gingerbread House, The First Baptist Church of Essex, Connecticut, Benjamin Bushnell Farm and the Connecticut River Museum.
