About Torre del Oro (Golden Tower)

This 13th century watchtower is now a naval museum in Seville. The 12-sided tower was built by the Almohades to control access to the city’s port via the Guadalquivir river. It was later used as a prison during the Middle Ages. The cupola that tops the tower today was not added until 1760. Visitors can learn about Seville’s maritime history in this three-story museum.
