About Theresienstadt (Terezin)

The combination concentration camp and Jewish ghetto that existed from November 24, 1941 to May 9, 1945 was created by Nazi Germany SS in Terezin, in what is now the Czech Republic. Approximately 140,000 Jews were transferred to Theresientstadt. As many as 33,000 Jews died there and approximately 90,000 were transported to other destinations. The site is now called the Terezin Memorial dedicated to the many lives lost during the Nazi occupation. Some of the former buildings are open to visitors and the complex contains a museum and historical exhibits.
