The Massachusetts city was the first to have the name "Springfield" in the United States and it actually nicknamed "The City of Firsts" for its many inventions including basketball, the American-English dictionary and gasoline-powered car among many others. Springfield was established in 1636 as Agawam Plantation by English colonist William Pynchon and named after his original home in Essex, England. Points of interest include Forest Park, The Quadrangle, Basketball Hall of Fame, The First Game of Basketball Sculpture, The Big E, Titanic Museum, Springfield Armory National Park, Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden and nearby Six Flags New England.
