The phenomenal 145-foot underground waterfall highlights this geologically magnificent area in Lookout Mountain near Chattanooga, Tennessee. Ruby Falls Cave located 1,120 feet underground was formed of limestone approximately 240 million years ago. Cave explorer Leo Lambert and a crew discovered the falls and magnificent rock formations in 1928 and named them after his wife Ruby. The Ruby Falls Visitors Center is in Cavern Castle built to resemble a 15th Century Irish Castle. Ruby Falls is on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places and was one of the first caves to have electric lighting.
