About Puerto Ayora

This is the most populated town in the Galapagos Islands with more than 12,000 residents and the capital of Santa Cruz Island. Puerto Ayora was established in the early 20th Century and named after Ecuadorian President Isidro Ayora. Town points of interest are Charles Darwin Research Station, Galapagos National Park and Academy Bay. The town is a departure spot or stopping point for many tours and has several hotels, many restaurants, bars, grocery stores, a hospital and other amenities.
