About Otavalo

This quaint Andean town is mainly populated by the indigenous Otavalo. Don't miss the famous Saturday market, where you can pick up some woolen textiles woven by the locals, as well as other handmade traditional crafts. Otavalo is also known for its traditional music and musicians, who play an important part in the summer solstice festival, and often travel around the world promoting their soulful music, known as Andean New Age. Otavalo is surrounded by the peaks of three spectacular volcanoes, and one—Imbabura—is the father of the indigenous people and their culture, according to legend.
