This picturesque "place of many hills" is surrounded on three sides by verdant hills and mountains. Onati lies in a valley at the heart of Basque Country. The medieval town is home to numerous monuments and its centerpiece attraction is the Universidad de Sancti Spiritus, which was built in the 16th century and was the first university in the Basque Country. Other notable sights are the Iglesia de San Miguel and Sanctuary of Arantzazu.
