This quaint Maine destination's name means "beautiful place by the sea" in the Native American Abenaki language and that phrase has also been adopted at the town's motto. Ogunquit was originally part of the town of Wells, which was established in 1643. Shipbuilding and fishing have long been common trades in Ogunquit. Points of interest include the Marginal Way, Captain James Winn House, Ogunquit Playhouse, Ogunquit Public Library, Perkins Cove and the Ogunquit Museum of American Art.
