This San Francisco neighborhood is known as the city's "Little Italy" for having a large Italian-American population. Popular spots are Columbus Avenue, The National Shrine of St. Francis of Assisi, Saints Peter and Paul Church, City Lights Bookstore, Columbus Tower, North Beach Museum, The Hotel Bohème and The Beat Museum. Baseball star Joe DiMaggio grew up in North Beach and later lived there for a short time after he married Hollywood starlet Marilyn Monroe.
