About Neuschwanstein Castle

See the most famous castle in the world that was the alleged inspiration for Disneyland’s Cinderella Castle. Neuschwanstein, arguably the most iconic landmark in Germany, was planned by King Ludwig II and purposefully built in the 1860s as a romantic medieval castle to re-create the world of Germanic mythology. The castle’s showpiece is the opulent Minstrels’ Hall, an ode to German composer Wagner where wall frescos depict scenes from his opera Tannhäuser. Not to be missed is the Throne Room with its mosaic floor of more than two million stones. Neuschwanstein is a stop along the "Romantic Road" along with nearby Hohenschwangau Castle.
