About Muir Woods

The 554-acre Northern California national park features 240 acres of old coast redwood trees, which are the largest tree species on earth and range in age from 400-800 years old. Muir Woods National Park was designated a national monument in 1908 by United States President Theodore Roosevelt after the coast redwood forest preservation efforts of U.S. Congressman William Kent and his wife Elizabeth. It was named after wilderness advocate John Muir as Kent requested. Visiting this spectacular redwood museum along The Golden State's coast is an unparalleled experience.
