The Northern California city incorporated in 1884 has fertile farmlands and a significant agriculture industry. Modesto is well-known for being the setting of legendary director and Modesto native George Lucas' 1973 film "American Graffiti" and though he was not allowed to film there at the time, the city has since embraced its link to the iconic movie. City attractions include McHenry Mansion, McHenry Museum, The State Theatre, the Graceada Park area and George Lucas Plaza. Its downtown area has many restaurants, bars and stores to visit.
