Home to a variety of architectural styles, Melk stands on the edge of the Danube River in Wachau Valley of Lower Austria. Once claimed by an array of owners over the ages, the town officially became a municipality in 1898. The blend of historical buildings found around Melk include the Aggsbach-Dorf, Schloss Schallaburg, and Baroque-style Benedictine Abbey.
