Created by Queen Marie de' Medici of France, the Luxembourg Gardens was designed to compliment the beauty and majesty of the Luxembourg Palace, the queen's residence following the passing of King Henry IV. Covering 23 hectares, the garden features an expansive lawn and pool at its center where statues of children sail model boats. The garden hosts hundreds of statues, fountains, and monuments, including the Reines de France et Femmes illustres, a series of 20 statues that honor French Queens and famous female figures of France.
