About Linderhof Palace

Linderhof Palace reflects the extensive detail and lavish designs of King Louis XIV's Versaille, the immediate inspiration for this Bavarian palace. The smallest of King Maximillan II of Bavaria's palaces and the only one he did not get to see completed, Linderhof rests on what was once his father's hunting ground. Though it's based on Versaille, evident in the sun decorations riddled throughout the structure, the palace draws largely from the Rococco style of Louis XV. Most uniquely, while King Louis XIV styled himself the Sun-King, Maximillan was the Night-King, seen in the way his main bedroom, the largest in the estate, is set in the north to face the sunset, opposite of Versaille's.
