See Italy’s second-largest lake which straddles the Italian-Swiss border. Lake Maggiore, located on the south side of the Alps, is also known for the beguiling Borromean Islands: Isola Bella, once a barren rock now known for its sumptuous palace and terraced gardens; Isola Madre, the largest island, also noted for its gardens; and Isola dei Pescatori, a fishing village and the only inhabited island of the archipelago. The islands can all be accessed from nearby Stresa, one of Lake Maggiore’s most charming towns.
