This Central Bohemian chateau was the last home of Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand before he was assassinated in Sarajevo causing World War I. The Chateau of Konopiste was established in the 13th century as a Gothic fortress and later converted into a chateau. It is situated just outside of Benešov, approximately 30 miles from Prague. The regal residence features many fascinating exhibits and rooms as well as vast enchanting gardens. The museum displays has the actual bullet that killed Ferdinand.
