About Jamaa el Fna Square

This main square of Marrakesh is one of the liveliest places in the city, one in which UNESCO named a "Masterpiece of World Heritage." Jamaa el Fna Square has been the preferred gathering place of Marrakesh since 1050 AD when it was the site of public executions, hence its name "assembly of the dead." Today you will find an open-air street theater of snake charmers, henna tattoo artists, musicians, performers and street chefs.
