About Iolani Palace

The majestic sacred structure in Downtown Honolulu was the official residence of the Hawaiian monarchy and was built in 1882 for King Kalakaua. Iolani Palace became a museum in 1978 and features original royal furnishings, tableware and other relics as well as historic photos and documents. The palace grounds have the Coronation Pavilion, Iolani Barracks and The Sacred Mound. The U.S. National Historic Landmark's first and second floors have lavishly decorated rooms including Grand Hall, Throne Room, Blue Room and the State Dining Room that are available for the public to tour.
