Replacing the former Hawaiian State Capitol Iolani Palace, the Downtown Honolulu five-story structure opened in 1969 and is surrounded by reflection pools to symbolize the Pacific Ocean. The Hawaii State Capitol was designed in Hawaiian International Style by Belt, Lemmon & Lo and John Carl Warnecke & Associates. Landmarks around the open-air style building are a Queen Liliʻuokalani Statue, Father Damien Statue, Liberty Bell, Eternal Flame and Korean-Vietnam War Memorial.
