About Guernica

See one of the most famously bombed cities in the world that was the inspiration for one of Pablo Picasso’s most famous works. Guernica, the spiritual home of and seat of Basque nationalism, was destroyed in a Nazi air raid during the Spanish Civil War but rebuilt as one of the Basque country’s most important cities. Two of its most notable attractions include Casa de Juntas, the former Basque parliament; and Fundacion Museo de la Paz de Guernica, which contains a permanent exhibition of the bombing as depicted in photographs in 1937 and in artifacts, including bomb fragments with Luftwaffe markings.
