About Godollo

Home to the lavish summer palace of Hungarian King Franz Joseph I and his wife Elisabeth, this town located approximately 20 miles from Budapest is a popular day trip for tourists. Godollo dates back to the 14th century when it was separated from the Besnyõ settlement. Nobleman Antal Grassalkovich I played an important role in Godollo's development as he began building his palace in 1735 and continued to expand his property. Godollo also was the site of the Hungarian Art Deco artist colony between 1901-20. Other points of interest include Szent Istvan University, Liberty Square, Queen Elizabeth Hotel, Godollo Museum, Hamvay Mansion, Reformed Church, The Pelican Well and the Town Market.
