A mountain resort city located in Sevier County, Tennessee, Gatlinburg is mostly known as a popular vacation resort. Gatlinburg was founded in the 18th century by Edgefield, South Carolina native William Ogle. Cherokee hunters helped Ogle build the city by hewing and cutting logs. After Olge's death, his wife Martha Jane Husky Olge returned to Gatlinburg with her children and continued with the settlement. Gatlinburg is home to the Great Smokey Mountains National Park which opened in 1934.
