About Fatima

An important Catholic shrine, Fatima lies about 79 miles north of Lisbon. In 1917, three children saw an apparition of Our Lady of the Rosary who promised peace in the time of the First World War. Pope Pius XI declared the children’s vision as worthy of belief in the eyes of the Catholic Church. Today, millions of pilgrims and tourists visit Fatima’s Sanctuary, which is dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
