This California beach city began when Midwesterners Elisha Babcock and Hampton Story purchased property in 1886 to build a seaside resort. The Queen Anne Revival architectural style Hotel del Coronado was constructed and caught the eye of investor John D. Spreckles, who purchased the hotel and built other developments. Charles Lindbergh flew from Coronado Island's North Island during the first part of his 1927 New York to Paris flight. City attractions include the beaches, Museum of History and Art, Coronado Public Library, Village Theater, Coronado Bridge and the Hotel del Coronado, of course.
