This famous 197-foot tall statue of explorer Christopher Columbus was created for the Barcelona Universal Exposition in 1888 to commemorate his first expedition to the New World. It represents that Columbus was on a mission for Spanish Queen Isabella I and King Ferdinand V. The Christopher Columbus Statue along La Rambla in Barcelona was designed by Gaietà Buigas i Monravà and sculpted by Rafael Atche.
