About Chinatown, Victoria

The first of any established Canadian Chinatown and second in North America, this community is historically significant for being at the forefront in fighting anti-racism laws and establishing the first global Chinese political association. Victoria's Chinatown is a National Historic Site of Canada and began when large numbers of Chinese immigrants began arriving in 1858. Its notable attractions are Fan Tan Alley, The Gate of Harmonious Interest, Chinese Public School and Fisgard Street.
