Popular with tourists because of its New England charm and stunning landscape, the Massachusetts cape in the Atlantic Ocean consists of 15 towns including historic Provincetown where the Pilgrims first landed. The Wampanoag Native American tribe resided on the land to be known as Cape Cod long before the Pilgrims first arrived at Provincetown in 1620 before they moved on to settle in Plymouth. Cape Cod is divided into the areas of Upper Cape, Mid Cape and Lower Cape with its most notable summer vacation retreats being Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, Provincetown and Barnstable.
