About Bermeo

This Basque Country fishing town in Northern Spain is home to the stunning island hermitage of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe attracting thousands of tourists annually. Bermeo was established in 1236 and was the capital of Biscay from 1476 to 1602. Other notable town attractions include the San Juan Gate, Ercilla Tower, Matxitxako Cape, Santa Maria Church, Santa Eufemia Church and Old Town.
