Well-known for its health spas, the small town of Bad Ischl has developed from an early market town into a fashionable spa resort due to the support of the Austrian Empire. In the 17th century they established the Kaiservilla as a summer resort for the royal family and is the current home of Archduke Markus Habsburg, but the grounds and gardens are open for tours. Visitors to the town can enjoy a gondola up to the nearby Katrin alpine pasture to see a stunning view of the Salzkammergut region.
