The invisible ring of latitude on the globe runs through the Arctic Ocean and several countries including the United States by way of Alaska. The Arctic Circle in Alaska is marked by a sign along Dalton Highway marking it at a latitude of 66° 34′, just above the Seward Peninsula. It is the southernmost latitude in the Northern Hemisphere that the sun can stay continuously above or below the horizon for a 24-hour period.
