Alaska's most populous city with more than 40 percent of the state's residents call the municipality home is also the northernmost United States city with more than 100,000 citizens. Anchorage was settled in 1914 and received its name from anchorage at Ship Creek. The city if full of wildlife including many bears, moose, mountain goats, foxes, beavers and lynx. Notable city attractions are Alaska Native Heritage Center, Anchorage Museum, Earthquake Park, Captain Cook Monument, Wells Fargo Alaska Heritage Library & Museum, Oscar Anderson House Museum, Alaska Zoo, Alaska Botanical Garden and the Anchorage Bowl.
